Far out Worlds | Sci-Fi Book Covers

There's a lot of Sci-Fi book cover artwork out there - but you have wade through masses of bad fantasy/fan-boy art from many decades to get to the good stuff...when you find it however, it's pure gold! I've put a few Sci-Fi favs in this Flickr gallery - http://www.flickr.com/photos/kathykavan/galleries/72157624337182273/

(Note to self - sometimes I may lose sight of what is good artwork vs. artwork that's so cheesy and bad it actually comes full circle to being good again - I think there's a mix of it in this little collection but the Sci-Fi aesthetic is a bit of both I think) - anyway, I've had fun finding it - enjoy!

"from the book "Selections of Designing Work the Central Academy of Arts & Design 1956-1986" by Zhong Yang, Gong Yi Mei Shu Xue Yuan and She Ji Pin Xuan. Found this at a rare/used book store and can find no information about it online.  The Central Academy of Arts & Design is now known as "China Central Academy Of Fine Arts", www.cafa.edu.cn/channel.asp?id=10 "

Vintage German Sci-fi books by Eyke Volkmer

Minimalist, airbrushed, colourful and mysterious, what's not to like?

During the 60's and 70's Eyke Volkmer has designed 162 paperbacks in the airbrush styled series "Goldmanns Weltraum Taschenbücher" - see full set here: http://www.weltraumtaschenbuch.de/pages/theproject.html and referring article here: http://www.sci-fi-o-rama.com/2010/02/27/eyke-volkmer/ - also check out http://www.houdinination.com/ which is a good online archive of sci-fi literature.

Make Your Tweets into Penguin Modern Classic Covers

Fun and quite addictive to see how your tweets look when generated as Penguin Modern Classic covers - rather convincing results me thinks. Type in what you want the tweet to be about e.g. # = '@kathykavan' & the web-app pulls in feeds of that # content. Have a play here: http://gravitron.com.au/twittermodernclassics/ and see other people's here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/twittermodernclassics/

LittlePixel's Classic Records as Pelican Books Set

LittlePixel's well designed collection of 'Classic records lost in time and format, re-emerged as Pelican books' is rather fun to look through. Im a bit late on this one as it seems all the fuss on it was last year (see the press links on the Flickr set), but I like the collection so it's today's design find for me...have a look!

18 x Designer re-designs on Flickr | Films & TV

I really love the trend of artists & designers re-imagining their favourite films & TV shows. Whether it's a poster, the designing of a book cover or a retro game, some of these designs are better than the actual published material. I have picked 18 of my favourites available on Flickr and put them into a Gallery, enjoy...see full Flickr gallery here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kathykavan/galleries/72157623379897852/

Also see the 'I can read movies series' which is great: http://www.flickr.com/photos/spacesick/sets/72157614482499746/
