Excellent Light Painting

Stop motion form and colour, using light painting techniques.

"I've been interested in taking my Light Study photo series and evolving them into motion pieces. I shot a lot of footage for a VJ gig for FITC San Francisco. So I edited together those stop motion sequences, mashed up some audio from the Tron Legacy trailers, and out came Light Drive. The video is stop motion, so every frame is an individually shot photograph. Each photograph is a long exposure photo, with exposures reaching up to 20 seconds in some cases. To control the lights, I used an Arduino controlled via bluetooth to drive a stepper motor. The stepper motor controls the movements of the lights remotely from Processing. The light sources include cold cathode case lights, EL wire, lasers and more." Lighting: Kim Pimmel Sound: Tron Legacy trailers

Augmented Reality: Domestic Robocop + Others...

We can all be Robocop now - love the irritated flick of the hand when disregarding all the ad messages. Brilliant and thought provoking video by Keiichi Matsuda (much better than my final year project all those years ago!!)

"The latter half of the 20th century saw the built environment merged with media space, and architecture taking on new roles related to branding, image and consumerism. Augmented reality may recontextualise the functions of consumerism and architecture, and change in the way in which we operate within it."

The scenario of the user being paid to bombard themselves with ads is something I think will happen in the future in many contexts not just AR, but this would only be one level of interaction - there would be other quieter modes/layers that Keiichi touches on here. You could see the concept working in a myriad of places such as queues, museums, shops, banks and the list could go on and on - equally exciting and terrifying.

LEGOLICIOUS! Adult Fans of LEGO video (AFOL) | Vimeo

I for one enjoy my LEGO making sessions with my 3 year old a little too much, maybe Im a AFOL at heart! Watching this I retained a smile throughout and was itching to get a few hours in some of those guys LEGO studios - they are LEGOLICIOUS!

This is a well put together documentary on the world of Adult LEGO fans, as one comment on Vimeo said 'Great documentary. You treated the subject with humor and respect' and a subject which could have been mocked instead keeps you watching for the full half hour.

Info from Vimeo about film: "Passion combines with creativity in this documentary that features a selection of AFOLs (Adult Fans Of LEGO) from the Pacific NorthWest." Directed by Jess Gibson

FANTASTIC Curious Displays by Julia Tsao

THIS IS FANTASTIC....SOMEONE PLEASE FUND THIS!!
"Curious Displays is a product proposal for a new platform for display technology. Instead of a fixed form factor screen, the display surface is instead broken up into hundreds of ½ inch display blocks. Each block operates independently as a self-contained unit, and has full mobility, allowing movement across any physical surface. The blocks operate independently of one another, but are aware of the position and role relative to the rest of the system. With this awareness, the blocks are able to coordinate with the other blocks to reconfigure their positioning to form larger display surfaces and forms depending on purpose and function. In this way, the blocks become a physical embodiment of digital media, and act as a vehicle for the physical manifestation of what typically exists only in the virtual space of the screen."
